What is Mental Health First Response ?

Mental Health First Response is about knowing what to do when someone isn't okay. It's the same as Mental Health First Aid

When somebody is struggling, the first person they speak to is rarely a mental health professional. It's more likely to be a colleague, friend, supervisor, manager — or simply somebody they trust.

That person doesn't need to become a counsellor.

They need the confidence to notice when something may be wrong, start a conversation, listen well, respond appropriately and know when further support may be needed.

That's what Mental Wellbeing First Response develops.

The 2-Day Course is filled with practical and experience-based exercises that enable people to become confident First Responders

Awareness is important. Knowing how to respond matters too.

Mental health conversations and Wellbeing provision are increasing.

But what comes next?

What happens after someone asks:

“Are you okay?”

And the answer is:

“...actually… no"

What do I say now?

What if they become upset?

What if I say the wrong thing?

Where does my responsibility end?

From awareness to confident response

Exmet training develops these skills at different levels — from understanding mental wellbeing and everyday advocacy to more developed First Responder skills.

Mental Health Awareness
Understand more. Notice more. Know what helps.

Mental Health Advocate
Understand. Support. Advocate.

Mental Health First Responder
